This platform exists in an area that many will rightly question. We have thought carefully about this, and we want to be as transparent as possible about our approach, what permissions we hold, and where we acknowledge uncertainty.

Who we are

A non-profit, open-source charity project

No money is made from this content

Improving Muslim does not earn advertising revenue, subscription fees, or any form of payment from the videos hosted here. There are no ads attached to the content we serve. The platform is funded voluntarily through donations from Muslims who want to see it exist.

Built as sadaqah for the ummah

This project is a charitable contribution to the Muslim community. The goal is to make beneficial Islamic lectures more accessible and watchable, without the distracting recommendations and harmful advertisements that come with standard video platforms. The code is open source and free for anyone to inspect or build upon.

Why we serve videos directly rather than embedding YouTube

Videos are served through a private CDN rather than as embedded YouTube players. This is specifically to remove ads, algorithm-driven recommendations, and distracting content that appear inside the YouTube player itself. We do not claim ownership of any content. Original links, speaker pages, and full attribution are provided throughout the platform.

Explicitly permitted for da'wah and educational use

Yaqeen Institute's public Watch FAQ states that their video library is "free to watch, free to share, and free to use for teaching, da'wah, and personal study." It explicitly states that teachers, imams, MSAs, and study circles may use the videos "without permission or licensing fees." Our use falls clearly within this published permission.

Ali Hammuda

Permitted — we link back to his channel as requested

Ali Hammuda's YouTube channel About page states: "We request that anyone who reproduces material from this channel to add a link to this channel in their description." We comply with this on every series and speaker page by linking directly to his YouTube channel. No further permission was required under his own stated terms.

Yasir Qadhi's YouTube channel carries the notice: "Copyright reserved and reproduced exclusively with permission for Yasir Qadhi's Official YouTube Channel." This is stricter than the other speakers we feature. We acknowledge this honestly. We are reviewing how to handle his content appropriately and welcome any contact from him or his team. If he or anyone representing him requests that his content be removed, we will do so promptly and without dispute.
